Simone Arianne Biles, /sI'moUn/baI@lz/ was born March 14 in 1997. Biles tied Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals in American gymnastics and is currently the ninth highest. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast to ever compete in the Gymnastics World Championships. She is considered by many sources to be the most successful gymnast ever. [5] In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. In the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Biles won individual gold medals in the all-around, vault and floor; bronze on balance beam and gold as part of the United States team, dubbed the "Final Five".At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo Biles was a participant. Biles was favored to claim at minimum 4 of the 6 available gold medals, she withdrew from the most of the games because of issues with "the twisties" and the temporary loss of balance awareness. In the US team she won an award for balance beam and a silver. The partial withdrawal, the focus on mental health, safety, and perseverance were praised. She's also an all-around champion five times over, World all-around champion (2013-2015 (2018), 2018-2019) and five-time World floor exercise champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019) and three-time World balance beam champion (2014-2015, 2019) Two-time World vault champion (2018-2019) A seven-time United States national all-around champion (2013-2016, 2018-2019, 2021) and was a part of the gold-medal winning American teams at the 2014, 2015, 2018 and the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. She was also an World silver medalist in balance beam (2013 and 2014) in 2013 and 2014, and three-time World bronze medalist in vault (2015 2013 and in 2018 on bars that are uneven).
Biles is the gymnast who earned the most World gold medals (19) and World medals (25) in the world. She has also surpassed Vitaly Scherbo's record of 23 World medals. Biles won her 24thplace and 25th and both gold at Stuttgart's 2019 competition. She holds the record for having the most all-around World titles (5). She's the sixth woman to achieve both an individual and team title in the Olympics or World Championships. She is the tenth female gymnast, and the first American female gymnast to receive a World medal on every event, and the first gymnast female since Daniela Silivas in 1988 to achieve a medal at every event in a single Olympic Games or World Championships, having accomplished this feat at the 2018 World Championships in Doha. Biles was born on March 14, 1997 in Columbus, Ohio, the third of four siblings.Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was not able to take care of Simone and her three other children - Adria, Ashley, and Tevin. The four children were all put in foster care. Biles' maternal grandfather Ron Biles and Nellie Cayetano Biles were aware that Shanon was in foster care. They started caring for Shanon's children for a short time in Spring, Texas in 2000. They adopted Simone and Adria, her younger sister in 2003. Shanon's aunt is Ron's sister. Harriet adopted the two oldest children Biles has Belizean citizenship via her adoptive mom and calls Belize as her second home. Biles as well as her family members are Catholic.
